This assignment is based on Primo Levis, Survival in Auschwitz.
In Chapter Nine of Survival in Auschwitz, The Drowned and the Saved, Levi posits the existence of two particularly well differentiated categories among menthe saved and the drowned. In particular, he is interested in explaining/describing how those among the common prisoners not initially favored by fate managed to survive (reach salvation as he puts it), via the stories of Schepschel, Alfred L., Elias, and Henri. For this assignment, write a short paragraph or two about why (in Levis mind) ONE of these individuals reached salvation. What in general does this reveal about the nature of surviving Auschwitz?
